I was getting so tired of this clock that I have hanging in my dining area....so a trip to Michaels for some 59 cent paint and a piece of scrapbook paper that I already had...voila, a "new" clock. I did prime it first with Kilz primer, in case you were wondering.

It was another snowy cold winter day here in NJ. Snow then turned to ice and the roads are still being plowed as I type. Over the last month I bought a couple sets of warm and oh so soft flannel sheets at Kohls. If you live near a Kohls I suggest you get on over there and get yourself a set or two.

I went to Michaels, Joanns and the supermarket last night and I just couldn't resist buying some more holiday decorations. Michaels and Joanns had 70% off(yes I said 70!) I bought some berry picks for 29 cents each. I wanted more but all I could find were 9 of them. Don't think I'm not going to check out other Michaels stores for more of them. I also got a felt star treetopper from Joanns. It's a Debbee Mumm and was $4.80. Then from the supermarket I got the berry wreath and bark tree for $5 each. I had some extra garland,already lit and added to the bed. The fabulous pillow is from jenn of noodle and lou.

My attempts at making a gingerbread house did not go so well. I bought the kit on sale at Michael's and thought, this will be so easy. After the wall started collapsing I lost my enthusiasm in decorating it.

Well the tree is up. Just some minor problem with half of the lights not working. I ran over to Michaels for another set and when I got home and plugged them into the rest of the lights...miracle, the lights that weren't working just turned back on. I had to elevate the tree even more this year so Cali wouldn't be too tempted. So far, she hasn't even noticed the tree.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

Last night I pulled out my decorations. The tree isn't up yet...The problem is last year Cali was 4 months old when I put the tree up. I put it up on a table to discourage any curiosity that nosy girl may have had....she was just tall enough to reach the tree skirt(and pull it) and jumped up a couple of times and pulled ornaments off. This year I need to elevate the tree even more...I am thinking of a plant stand that I have...we'll see how that goes. In the meantime here are pics of the decor.

Spray Painting Part 2

I went outside yesterday in the freezing cold to get another spray paint project done before it snows. This is a lamp that I bought at Home Depot last year. It looked like it was a dark brown finish in the store but after I brought it home and finished assembling it I realized that it was a cherry finish and matched absolutely nothing. So out came the black satin finish paint that I used on the mirror in my previous post...voila, "new" lamp!

Yes, that's right, I had my first foray into spray painting last night. It was dark out and damp, not the best conditions, but I just couldn't wait. I was quite tired of this distressed blue framed mirror in my entrance so satin black was calling out to me. I then sprayed and old urn that I had and I have more things that I'd like to spray...a filing cabinet, a floor lamp and possibly some picture frames. I have to do something with the urn, possibly stick one of my pumpkins in it and a little moss. I'll post a picture when it's done.

Changing leaves and some new stuff

over the weekend a friend of mine had a garage sale. so on friday i started cleaning out my closets like a mad woman. in the process i pulled out an antique laundry basket that i had gotten on ebay last year and some rusty iron fleur de lis candlesticks that i bought for a $1 each at the christmastree shop last year. i was at the garage sale most of the day yesterday and she had it again today. well it didn't go so well today...1 customer and $5. i also managed to snag a frame from her and a lamp yesterday. i've already put my spin on them with the profile of cali and the decorated lampshade.(thanks angie over at the happy homebody) i'm now obsessed with the idea of decorating lampshades. one problem though, they only carry two different sizes of those self adhesive shades at joanns and the larger size was too large and the small one, which i bought, is too small. oh well, it's staying like that for now!

okay, so i'm finally getting over my pumpkin decorating obsession. i just made one more for my dining room table and 2 for a friend of mine who just got married. she has a cocker spaniel and on one of the pumpkins i did a silhouette. of course after i packed the pumkins up to send off to her i remembered that i didn't take pics. it's a cute idea though and you could even do your cat's profile or your kids. i am done buying fall decor for now...no more room to put it... although i did see some dark sparkly pumpkins at joanns. if they still have them and they go on super duper clearance, then i'll buy them. i went to the dollar tree last night. bought some propel water, batteries, air fresheners(renuzit rasberry-smell great) and the above christmas balls. yes, they have their christmas stuff out now and if you don't snatch it up soon, it will be gone by the time you actually need it. i have an apothecay jar on my mantle that is currently filled with faux pumpkins and gourds. i figure i'll fill it up with the balls. apothecary jars are so versatile. you could fill them up with just about anything and change it out for the season or whatever holiday it happens to be.

I keep seeing these cool pumpkins all over the blogs and I just love them. So yesterday I made a trip to Michaels to pick up some pumpkins, stencils and a new sharpie. I also added some tulle ribbon that I had left over and some wire ribbon.. The "c" pumpkin is for my doggy Cali. Such a quick project that makes a great impact.

angie over at the happy homemaker had a lampshade tutorial. she has quite the collection of cool lampshades. well she inspired me to get rid of the old rubbery dusty ones i had and get those self adhesive kind. i went to joann fabric today for supplies and after a couple of hours i was finished! i'm quite happy with the results and even have enough fabric to recover my dining room chairs. i guess that's my next project. here's the "new" and old lampshades.

today i cleaned and started putting out some of my fall decor. i even made a wreath. very simple and very inexpensive. about $3 total, $1.99 for the wreath and the $1 leaf garland from my last post and a little hot glue and some leftover ribbon. i still have a plastic tub filled with more fall/halloween decor. i have no idea where i'm going to put it all. since cali arrived i always have to stop and think, will she get to this? she is a very nosy little lady and seems to get into everything...but i love her so much!

Dollar Tree Bargains

i haven't been to a dollar tree in such a long time. well here's what i scored today...some faux pumpkins, a leaf garland and a cute photo album/scrapbook. Not bad for a buck each. Also went to Michaels....get this, grapevine wreaths were $1.99 each, i kid you not. Now i don't know if it was just this michaels store but check out your local michaels.

i painted my bathroom a few weeks ago. it's a pretty pale pink, behr musical mist. i added a simply shabby by rachel ashwell shower curtain. voila, it's sort of like a new bathroom. it's amazing how can of paint could make such a big difference to a space, large or small. when i walk up the steps now to the bedroom the first thing i see is the pretty floral curtain..loving it!

here's the rest of the loot i got at michaels...glass bottles and the shabby chic frame. it was less than $3. what a bargain! also the fab clock on my mantle. some pics of my dining "room". actually it's an area of the living room. i recovered my dining room chairs a few years ago with waverly fabric. a find on ebay. i still have about a yard left. i'd love to do something with it but i do not sew. any suggestions?

i've been a blog slacker lately. on sunday the bf and i went to a park in nyack. if you're not from around here, nyack is a town in ny state on the hudson river. we had a picnic..well it was sandwiches from subway and pringles from walmart. hey it was food, right? there are picnic tables right along the water's edge and it's just so peaceful staring out at the water. the water was pretty choppy and there were only like two boats out there. as you can see cali scored a new ball from walmart. FYI super sale at Michaels. i went yesterday and bought a clock for $2.49 and glass bottles for .49 cents each! can you believe it? i'll post pics of those another day. i haven't taken the pics yet. i meant to go back today but i never made it there. i'm guessing the sale ends on sat so i'll probably go back before then. i know i'm all over the place with this post but i'm trying to get in different stuff. also was out with my friend and her son the other day and we saw a mommy deer and her two babies. i was able to get in a quick pic while we slowed down but of course there were cars behind us.

i had this tv cabinet in my guest room and never really liked it. it was a hand me down. it just hit me a couple of weeks ago that i should paint it. so i started last night. the white "paint" is actually kilz primer and the inside greenish color is leftover paint that i used in my kitchen a few years ago. i want to change the knobs. i was at home depot yesterday but they really didn't have anything that i liked. any suggestions as to where i could buy knobs, aside from expensive anthropologie?

hi. i haven't forgotten about my blog, it's just that i've been so busy reading all of the great blogs out there that i neglected my own. there's a sale going on over at my etsy shop on scarves and spring inspiration boxes. i have new rings,necklaces and pendants to add to the shop but here is my dilemma...i'm new to the whole digital camera thing and every time i try to take a close up of say a ring for example it comes out with a total glare. if someone has any suggestions how i can photograph without this happening please email me. maybe there is something that i'm supposed to set up in the camera itself...help. i am also having some handy man work done here at home. when the dust has settled and i do my spring cleaning i will have some new pics. i'm currently trying to redo my living room/dining room. i live in a condo and it's one open area. i'm just changing out some of the accessories, not the furniture. i'm trying to do a french fleamarket kind of thing...not that i've been to france or anything...i'm now on the lookout for some damask pillows, maybe a glass bell cloche and or an urn. i've looked in marshalls, tj maxx, home goods and even home depot expo, joann and michaels. any suggestion anyone? i'm also going to try target. i even looked on etsy. i'm going for a blue and green theme. i bought some cool scrapbooking paper from michaels last night and covered a couple of books for the fireplace mantle. it's such a cheap and easy solution and i definitely recommend trying it. the paper was like 29 cents each. i love simple cheap and easy decorating ideas! i also went to the christmastree shop on saturday and picked up a cute cherub that is really supposed to be for outside but i'm going to use it indoors. only $3, what a bargain!
